Volkswagen Atlas Water Pump Class Action Settlement

What Is the Volkswagen Atlas Water Pump Settlement About?

The lawsuit concerns the mechanically driven main engine water pump and its gasket. Owners allege a defect could cause premature failure, coolant leakage and repair costs. Volkswagen disputes the claims and maintains that the vehicles were properly designed, manufactured and sold.

The agreement separates reimbursement for repairs paid before July 6, 2026, from the warranty effective that date. Not every vehicle in the listed model years is covered.

How Much Is the Volkswagen Atlas Settlement Payout?

The settlement does not provide a standard cash payment to every owner. Eligible benefits include:

  • Reimbursement of 80% of qualifying, unreimbursed expenses for one water-pump repair and up to two head-gasket repairs per vehicle. Head-gasket records must identify a coolant leak or low coolant level.
  • For non-dealer repairs, the invoice amount used for reimbursement is capped at $820 for the water pump and $3,325 for each head-gasket repair. Applying 80% produces maximum reimbursements of $656 and $2,660, respectively, before other reductions.
  • An extended warranty covering 80% of qualifying water-pump repair costs at an authorized Volkswagen dealer, for up to 8.5 years or 85,000 miles from the original in-service date, whichever occurs first.

Past reimbursable repairs must have been performed and paid before July 6, 2026, within those same age and mileage limits. Other payments or concessions reduce reimbursement. The warranty transfers to later owners while its limits remain unexpired.

Am I Eligible to File a Claim?

You may qualify if you purchased or leased a covered 2018–2022 Atlas or Atlas Cross Sport 3.6-liter vehicle in the United States or Puerto Rico and paid for an eligible repair. Check the official VIN lookup first.

For reimbursement, you must have been the owner or lessee when the qualifying work was performed. Repairs caused by misuse, alterations, collisions, outside damage or improper coolant do not qualify. A free or fully reimbursed repair does not generate another payment.

Is the Volkswagen Atlas Water Pump Settlement Legit?

Yes. Judge Susan D. Wigenton of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey oversees Briggs v. Volkswagen Group of America. The official site reports final approval on September 10, 2026, and publishes the settlement documents. Rust Consulting administers claims.

When’s the Claim Deadline?

Send the signed reimbursement form and supporting documents by first-class mail, postmarked by October 5, 2026. Online reimbursement filing is unavailable. The warranty has separate vehicle-age and mileage limits.

Who Qualifies for the Volkswagen Atlas Settlement?

Eligible current and former owners and lessees may include individuals and entities with covered vehicles. The class excludes used-car dealers, commercial resellers, certain salvage-title purchasers, insurers and other parties identified in the notice, as well as people who opted out. Warranty benefits apply to qualifying current owners or lessees without a reimbursement claim for future covered work.

How Do I File a Volkswagen Atlas Settlement Claim Form?

Download the claim form from MainEngineWaterpumpSettlement.com or request one at 888-227-1902. Complete, sign and date it, then attach repair records showing the VIN, repair date, mileage, shop information, work performed, parts and labor charges, plus proof of payment. Include ownership or lease evidence if the notice was addressed to someone else.

For a non-dealer repair during the original warranty, include evidence that an authorized dealer first declined or could not perform the repair free, or the permitted sworn declaration. Mail the packet to the address printed on the current form. Keep copies and respond promptly to requests for missing documents.
