$2.2 Million Equifax Duplicate-Account Reporting Class Action Settlement
What Is the Equifax Duplicate-Account Settlement About?
The lawsuit alleges that Equifax inaccurately reported the same collection account more than once and failed to follow reasonable procedures to assure maximum possible accuracy under the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act. Equifax denies the allegations, denies violating the law and says it agreed to settle to avoid further litigation.
How Much Is the Equifax Settlement Payout?
Class members who submit valid claims affirming harm are expected to receive up to $600, although the amount depends on the number of valid cash claims. Every class member who stays in the settlement will also receive an access code for six months of Equifax Complete, valued in the notice at $59.70 and including up to $500,000 in certain identity-theft expense coverage. Equifax also agreed to remove affected duplicate accounts and continue specified reporting-practice changes.
Am I Eligible to File a Claim?
You may qualify only if Equifax identified you as having been mailed the specific Duplicate Reporting Letter concerning a duplicate collection account in August or September 2022. A general Equifax account, credit-report error or unrelated breach notice does not establish membership in this settlement.
Is the Equifax Duplicate-Account Settlement Legit?
Yes. Judge Michael L. Brown of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia is overseeing the settlement. Angeion Group operates the court-authorized website. This is the $2.2 million Bradberry duplicate-reporting case, not a separate Equifax settlement involving other credit-reporting allegations.
When’s the Claim Deadline?
Submit the cash claim by September 1, 2026. That is also the exclusion and objection deadline. The final approval hearing is scheduled for October 6, 2026. No cash or monitoring benefit will be distributed until final approval and any appeals are resolved.
Who Qualifies for the Equifax Settlement?
The class consists of the approximately 37,651 U.S. consumers Equifax identified as recipients of the Duplicate Reporting Letter. Receipt of a personalized email or postcard with an EQB Notice ID and PIN is the clearest indicator that Equifax records place a person in the class.
How Do I File an Equifax Settlement Claim Form?
To file online, go to the official portal and enter the Notice ID beginning with EQB and the PIN from the notice. A paper claim may be mailed without printing those credentials on the form. Either way, complete and sign the harm certification truthfully and choose an available payment method. If you do not seek cash, update your address or email with the administrator so the credit-monitoring access code can reach you after the settlement becomes effective.
